Click Here To Apply To Our Organization! Are you new on campus? Are you looking for ways to get involved outside of the classroom? Do you see yourself as a future leader in a top-ranked business school? If you answered “Yes!” to all of the prior questions, you are in luck! The Broad Student Senate wants your talent!
Each Fall, the Broad Student Senate recruits the Broad College of Business’ most well-rounded individuals to join the organization. The student-run government organization is tasked as being the liaison between students and faculty in order to provide transparency to all Broad Spartans. In addition, the organization creates and holds events, networking opportunities, and town-halls each semester, geared towards the development of all students inside the Broad College of Business.
With move-in coming soon, the Broad Student Senate wants to get to know as many individuals as possible who want to make an early impact not only at Michigan State University, but the Broad College of Business as well. Jamie Streng, Senator in the Broad Student Senate, recently stated that the organization is not comparable to other clubs affiliated within Broad, “Broad Student Senate is the only student organization with limited membership”. As a result, Ms. Streng mentioned that the unique level of exclusivity creates, “a tight-knit community of passionate students who are given unique opportunities others are not able to experience”. Opportunities include corporate networking, leadership, and one-on-one interactions with Deans and faculty within the Broad College of Business.
According to Emily Allen, the Co-Director of the Human Resources committee within Broad Student Senate, the organization looks for a unique type of candidate, “In each candidate we are looking for passion, drive and enthusiasm”. In addition, it is beneficial to the candidate if he or she possesses, “prior leadership experience as well as outlook for future endeavors throughout the Business college”. In all, Emily Allen likes to refer to others that the most suitable candidate is someone who, “is motivated to inspire those around them.”
Outside of the unique professional development opportunities available to Senators within the organization, there are many other benefits as well. Sachin Diraviam, Co-Director of the Human Resources committee, mentions that the organization means much more to the members within the group, “Students should look to joining Senate because it forms a sense of having a smaller group of familiar faces in a large business school”. This idea alone allows Senators to go to class and work on similar projects together. If all of these benefits interest you, and an application is submitted to the organization, the candidate should expect to participate in a several-step recruitment process. According to Jamie Streng, a candidate will stand out if the individual is, “engaging, friendly, and shows genuine interest in being a part of Broad Student Senate.” Furthermore, Emily Allen mentioned that there is not one specific personality type the group is looking for, rather, “a diverse individual with a genuine enthusiasm to better the lives of those in the Business College.”
Upon a successful recruitment process, you might be asked to join this exclusive organization. If selected to do so, there will be various ways in which you can start to directly impact both the organization and the college. As implied by Emily Allen, “By joining Broad Student Senate you can expect to work hard and grow as both an individual and professional” in addition to, “gaining leadership experience beyond the access of most of your peers, setting your resume apart”. In total, you will be immersed with other like-minded and passionate individuals who are willing to support other Senators throughout their college and professional careers.
We ask that if you are interested in joining the organization, please visit the Broad Student Senate booth at Fall Welcome on August 29th, as well as visit the Broad Store during its operations.
We look forward to meeting you!
Go Green! Go Broad!
